Day 8
Christ Speaks the Message of Grace
Over My Life
Matthew 24:35- "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away."
We
want to believe in the people with whom we have relationships. Husbands and
wives expect fidelity in their marriages. We want friends to show loyalty to
us, even when we show them someone they don’t recognize. We purchase things we
need in life from people we think we can trust.
But
people change and circumstances change. People don’t always keep their word.
Nor do we always stay true to what we say we believe.
We
may want assurances from others and expect our own word to stay true, but
sometimes people disappoint us and we can even let ourselves down. Sometimes we
doubt what we have always claimed we believed. People don’t always live up to
their word. Spouses cheat sometimes. Friends quit showing up because they can’t
handle us in our mess. This is a hard reality to accept, but it is reality,
nonetheless.
While
we all look like people who are more unfaithful than faithful, grace
reflects the stability and faithfulness of God. In fact, the faithfulness of
God is the manifested presence of the grace of God in our lives. He is faithful
even when we are not. We can count on what He says about us even if others or
we attach labels to us because of what our past says about us.
It is
not scripture, though, by itself that changes our unfaithful patterns (John
5:39). If it were, Jesus would have said that scripture never passes away. But
He didn’t. He said the message He speaks never passes away. It is looking to His faithfulness to us to do what we can never seem
to do consistently. Hebrews 12:3 reminds us to “consider Him who endured…” if
we want to endure navigating the perilous journey of sin and unfaithfulness.
It is
the message of the faithfulness of our Savior that we must remember. If we want
to do something, then may we always look to Him today and recognize His
faithfulness to us in the significant moments of life and the ones we so
quickly dismiss as insignificant.
People
may change. We may change. But the message of God’s faithfulness to us in
Christ will always sustain us when we are weak (2 Corinthians 12:9). This faithful
message of grace will always be what Christ speaks into our lives.
Declaration
of Grace (Remember and Repeat this Word today over your life):
Jesus
Christ speaks the strength of grace over my life today when I am weak. It is His faithfulness to me that gives me the strength to live today in victory.
Prayer:
Heavenly
Father, thank you for reminding me of Your faithfulness in Christ. You know
that I let You and myself down at times. You know my struggles. You know my
weaknesses. I pray today that I will remember Your faithfulness to me. I will recognize
today how You continually give me grace for each moment. Amen.
